Thank you for your patience and understanding as our team worked collaboratively with the Participant Advisory Council to envision a fair credit/deferral policy and a valuable Virtual Relay experience for teams.

Effective collaboration and truly listening to understand takes an enormous amount of time and energy. After speaking individually with over 40 team captains, and with the assistance and guidance of the Participant Advisory Committee, we arrived at the best possible solution after many hours of brainstorming and evaluating all ideas on how to create this shared vision for the future.  As Cascade Relays is considered more like a family, it has been appropriate to have representation, oversight, and input from the family members who make our events special.  We are deeply grateful for the hours of work that Participant Advisory Council members spent with our team.

A comprehensive FAQs page is now available on our website.

The FAQs page comprises:

– Our credit/deferral policy

– Participant Advisory Committee’s role

– Details on the Virtual Relay experience and packet pick-up

– Snapshot of Cascade Relays expenses

We ask you to read through the FAQs page in its entirety.  If you still have questions and would like to request a personal call from me, please complete this form. I will continue to place individual calls over the next couple of weeks and appreciate your patience as I work through this list, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

With gratitude,

Scott and Carrie

To our Bend Beer Chase Family,

The health and safety of our participants, volunteers, spectators, partners, and our own local community is our number one priority.  The COVID pandemic has deeply affected our communities, our local businesses, economy, and is fundamentally changing our society.   We continue to support the recommendations set forth by the Oregon Health Authority, including the guidelines to cancel or severely modify all sporting events and large gatherings.  With the safety of our participants and our local communities amidst an increase of COVID cases, the recent City of Bend Administrative Order to strongly discourage recreational travel, and our inability to modify or safely produce a physical event, we are announcing the cancellation of Bend Beer Chase.

We certainly hoped for a different outcome and the opportunity to safely produce an event for your teammates, but based on team captain feedback and your concerns, and 83% of our participants traveling from outside Central Oregon, we felt it was unsafe and not feasible to produce a large scale event in 2020.  We are deeply empathetic to all of our teams that registered and hoped to participate in our Beer Chase events.

The cancellation of all 2020 Cascade Relays events is financially devastating for our small business, but we also recognize nearly every team is experiencing financial hardship as well.  These are challenging times for everyone.

Based on feedback from our Participant Advisory Council and the need to maintain a consistent credit/deferral policy aligned with the cancellation of Cascade Lakes Relay, we are increasing the credit/deferral amount for all registered Beer Chase teams. Regardless of whether your team decided in May to defer or participate in the postponed event date, your team will now receive the increased credit/deferral amount.  Please refer to our FAQ page for the credit/deferral policy details.

ALL registered teams will receive a credit/deferral of 67% of your 2020 registration fee.

Teams that opted to hire nonprofit volunteers, may request their Hire a Volunteer (HAV) donation to the Cascade Relays Foundation be refunded in full or 100% of your Hire-A-Volunteer (HAV) payment will be transferred to your future event registration.  Please fill out this form to request a full refund of your donation, providing your team name and mailing address, and we will process your refund immediately.

A Participant Advisory Council (PAC) was formed to help guide our decision making process for Beer Chase events and to create and approve the credit/deferral policy.  This Advisory Council consists of a diverse group of team captains who vary with multiple years serving as a team captain.  Together, we worked diligently to ensure a fair approach in creating a shared vision for the future of Cascade Relays and how we survive this together. A comprehensive FAQs page is now available on our website with detailed information on the following:

- Our credit/deferral policy

- Participant Advisory Committee's role

- Snapshot of Cascade Relays expenses

Additionally, at no additional cost or financial impact on the credit/deferral amount, we will provide your team with a Virtual Beer Chase experience this fall.

Our goal is to create the same community connection and family vibe you experience at Beer Chase, but through a safe virtual event to be experienced within your own team this Fall.  During a time when so many are asked to socially distance themselves from the community they depend on, and events are being canceled one after the next, the need to connect emotionally to our friends and family has never been more apparent.  Visit the Virtual Beer Chase page for more information.  We ask teams that wish to participate and receive free swag and a case of beer fill out this form to sign up, so our team can properly prepare to support your team during Virtual Beer Chase week.

We ask you to read through the FAQs page in its entirety.  If you still have questions and would like to request a personal call from Scott Douglass CEO, please complete this form.  Scott will place individual calls over the next couple of weeks and we appreciate your patience as he works through this list, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

We thank you for being such an integral part of our Cascade Relays family and standing with us through these times of uncertainty.  In the spirit of what has made Beer Chase more than just an event, let’s all step forward to lead our teams and connect with those in our family that need us most.  We are all in this together and our community will rise to meet these challenges.

Stay Healthy. Be Safe. Stay Connected.
