Cascade Lakes Relay

Our premier relay event of the year, the Cascade Lakes Relay is a Central Oregon summer tradition since 2008.

Registration is now open!

A Central ORegon Summer Tradition

Oregon’s most challenging running relay course starts in the Cascade Mountains at Diamond Lake Resort, travels through the Oregon Outback and rural agricultural country, and winds back to the Cascade Lakes Highway, around Mt. Bachelor and into the resort community of Bend. You’ll see more cows than semi-trucks and smell pine trees instead of exhaust. If you are seeking an adventure where you can push your limits and rediscover your senses, then this is the event for you and your team.

The Cascade Lakes Relay offers something for everyone with 3 events: CLR 36, CLR 24 and the Walk Relay.

Registration opens on August 1.

3 Distance options. One big party.

CLR 36

216.6 miles | 36 legs | 8 to 12 runners

The full Cascade Lakes Relay experience. Run all the way from Diamond Lake to Bend.

CLR 24

132 miles | 24 legs | 8 to 12 runners

A bit less distance, but still all the fun. Run the same course as CLR36, but start further along at Silver Lake.

Walk relay

94 miles | 18 legs | 6 to 12 runners

Our shortest course option for those keeping it party pace. Walk the same course, but start at Willow Butte.

How it Works

  • Step up to the Captain’s plate and be the hero your friends didn’t know they needed! this epic 216-mile relay race is broken up into 36 legs that vary in length and difficulty, which you’ll divide up amongst your 6-12 person team.

Imagine the camaraderie as you tackle each leg, handing off the baton like a well-oiled machine. From shared playlists and team chants to inside jokes and mutual encouragement, the Cascade Lakes Relay has a way of turning strangers into lifelong friends. Everyone brings something unique to the table, whether it’s speed, endurance, or sheer determination. Don’t just assemble a team, build a family that supports and motivates each other, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

You’ll be the one they toast to. The one they thank for the epic memories. The one who made it all happen!  So, don your cape, rally your friends, and let the adventure begin!

Lacking running buddies? No worries! We’ll pair you with an existing team or link you up with those seeking to join, facilitating the forging of new (and even more awesome) connections. Find a team here.

  • Choosing your team name for the Cascade Lakes Relay is like naming your first-born: it has to be memorable, charming, and strong enough to withstand the test of time. Will your team be the “Blister Sisters,” conquering every mile with sass, or the “Sole Survivors,” outpacing challenges with every stride? The right name sets the tone for epic adventures and endless laughs, so gather your crew, pour the creative juices, and remember—the name you choose will echo in the cheers, and probably in the groans, of every glorious step of the relay.

  • Ready to Run Wild? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Secure your spot in the most epic relay race of the year! Don’t miss out—your dream adventure starts here. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or running your very first relay, the Cascade Lakes Relay offers a course that’s both challenging and exhilarating. This is more than just a race; it’s a journey through some of the most beautiful landscapes you could ever imagine, with every turn offering a new vista. So lace up those running shoes, mark your calendar, and get ready to commit to an experience of a lifetime. Your adventure awaits—are you ready to answer the call?

Registration is now open! Sign your team up now.

  • Again, Cascade Lakes Relays can be as competitive or relaxed an experience as you want. If you’re in it to win it, we love that! If you’re just here to have fun with your friends, hang out, meet people, drink beer, etc., we love that too!

Either way, some running or walking fitness will likely make your experience a bit better, but hey… what do we know. Wherever you fall on the party to competitive racer spectrum, you are welcome here.

  • Get ready to unleash your inner champion! Race day is on the horizon, and it’s time to gear up, fine-tune those playlists, and get pumped up for the thrill ahead. But remember, you’re not in this alone! Once you register, we’ll be with you every step of the way, providing tons of resources to set you up for success and lead you to victory. From team logistics and event prep to perfecting your race (and costume)strategy, we’ve got your back.

So, lace up those shoes, brush up on your team cheers (and tunnel skills), and get ready to relay like never before!

  • From pirate ships to speakeasies, make your van the talk of the relay! Get creative and turn your wheels into something unforgettable. A well-decorated van not only lifts spirits and fuels the fun but also adds a competitive edge to your team’s identity. Picture rolling up to the next exchange point in a decked-out van, music blaring, and your team making a grand entrance. It’s not just transportation—it’s a mobile base of operations, a place for rest, and a hub for rallying team spirit. Creativity knows no bounds, so let your imagination run wild and make your ride an icon of the relay.

  • Kickstart with a BBQ 🍖🌟 The adventure begins the night before race day with a thrilling kick-off BBQ at Diamond Lake. Imagine the fires blazing, the aroma of grilled delicacies wafting through the air, and the excited chatter of teams gearing up for the race. This BBQ isn’t just a meal; it’s a gathering of energy, a chance to size up the competition, share stories, and set the tone for the weekend ahead.

Surprises Along the Way 🎭🎶 But that’s just the beginning. The Cascade Lakes Relay course is packed with fun surprises. From creative costumes that add a splash of color and humor to every mile, to an electrifying midnight rave that transforms the quiet night into a dance floor under the stars, each segment offers something unique. As you run, you’ll be treated to breathtaking lakes and stunning mountain views, each more picturesque than the last.

Incredible Finishline Festival 🏅🎉 And as the journey culminates, prepare to be swept up in the incredible finishline festival at Riverbend Park. The energy is magnetic as teams reunite and celebrate their collective achievement. Music, food, and festivities await, making it a celebration you won’t soon forget. So whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned relay veteran, the Cascade Lakes Relay promises an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
